NCCA Update

NCCA

Every five years, the CBDM Certification Program must undergo a reaccreditation of our program, by a third party, much like a full JCAHO or CMS survey. The organization that we have been accredited through since 1989, is the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, or NCCA. We completed our most recent survey in November and continue to meet the NCCA accreditation standards. As part of this accreditation, CBDM also submits annual reports to NCCA.

This renewal is not only a prestigious recognition for our certification program but also reinforces the value of the CDM, CFPP credential. NCCA accreditation ensures that the certification continues to meet rigorous standards of quality and credibility, which gives confidence to professionals, employers, and the public alike that this credential is valid, reliable, and grounded in best practices.

Being part of a program that holds NCCA accreditation places CDM, CFPPs among a respected group of certified professionals across various industries, further validating the expertise and dedication we bring to our roles. It enhances the credibility of the certification, elevating its significance in our profession and contributing to the success and trust placed in our work.

CBDM Verification System

The Certifying Board for Dietary Managers (CBDM) provides a reliable system for verifying the certification status of CDM, CFPPs that is up to date in real time. This tool provides an easy and accurate way for stakeholders to confirm an individual’s certification status.

How to Verify Certification Status

To verify certification status, use the CBDM online verification tool
  • Enter the individual’s certification (ANFP ID) number or search by name or state.
  • Access a printable confirmation of the individual’s active certification, which includes the date of verification and the date through which certification is active for that specific year.
What You Need to Know
  • Certification status is accurate as of the verification date but may change over time.
  • The verification tool does not provide sensitive details, such as exam results, CE records, or recertification end date.
The CBDM Verification System ensures the credibility and validity of the CDM, CFPP credential, helping maintain high standards in foodservice management. For more information, visit CBDMonline.org or contact CBDM at info@CBDMonline.org.

Reporting CE Activities: Tips from CBDM CE Auditors

Report CE

Accurately reporting your continuing education (CE) activities is important—not just for maintaining your CDM, CFPP credential, but also for a smooth experience if you’re ever selected for an audit. To help you prepare, here are some tips from our CBDM CE auditors:
1. Certificate of Completion Must Have the Required Information
  • Ensure every certificate includes your name and the completion date as well as the name of the program session and the number of CE earned.
2. Report Prior Approved Programs Correctly
  • Report these activities under "Prior Approved Courses" and enter the approval number listed on the certificate of completion.
3. Often Missed Documentation
  • For Trade/Food Show Exhibits, include proof of attendance (with date and location) and a program or exhibitor list.
4. Avoid Program Summaries in the Text Box Title "Summary of What Was Learned and How it Applies to Industry/Job"
  • Focus on explaining how the knowledge gained benefits your work as a CDM, CFPP, rather than summarizing the program content.
5. Be Mindful of Ineligible Activities
  • In-services you provide to your staff do not count as CE hours. Also keep in mind all CE must fall under the CDM, CFPP Scope of Practice.
  • The list of Qualifying CE activities & required documentation can be found here
6. Handle Missing Certificates Proactively
  • If a certificate is unavailable, request a letter from the provider, on their letterhead, that includes the program details, your name, and the completion date and their signature.
7. File Naming Tips
  • When uploading documentation, avoid using special characters (&, *, %, #, @) in file names to ensure compatibility.
8. Stay Connected
  • Verify that your e-mail address in your ANFP record is current to ensure you receive all ANFP & CBDM communications.
9. Be Mindful of Duplicate Entries
  • Duplicate entries for CE activities are not accepted at any time. This policy applies not only during your current three-year recertification period but also across all years of certification. Each CE activity may only be counted once toward fulfilling your certification requirements.
10. Print or View Your CE Transcript
  • You can print or view your current and previous CE transcripts from your My Certification Page. This is a great way to avoid submitting duplicate CE.

Fulfilling Your Ethics CE Requirement
Ethics CE
CDM, CFPPs are required to earn at least 1.0 CE in Ethics during every recertification period. If you're looking for inspiration, here are some topic ideas to help you fulfill this important requirement:
  • Patient Advocacy: Understanding your role in promoting client rights and ensuring ethical treatment in foodservice and nutrition care.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): Building ethical leadership through inclusive practices in team management and service delivery.

  • Fair Hiring Practices: Ensuring fairness, transparency, and equity in recruitment, hiring, and promotions to foster an ethical workplace culture.

  • Confidentiality in Healthcare: Best practices for safeguarding sensitive information while maintaining compliance with HIPAA.

  • Workplace Ethics: Navigating ethical challenges like conflict resolution, professional boundaries, and decision-making under pressure.
Meeting your Ethics CE requirement is not just a mandate but an opportunity to enhance your ethical decision-making skills and leadership abilities. Look for relevant courses or webinars offered by CBDM prior approved providers in ANFP’s FIND CE to strengthen your professional practice and stay compliant with certification standards.

Stay ethical, stay certified!
